If you are interested in trying to predetermine the gender of your children, it might behoove you to check out the Shettles Method.
What is the Shettles Method?
Dr. Landrum B. Shettles first discovered this method back in the 1960s. It allegedly works by only allowing the sperm that carry the chromosome of the gender you want—X for girls, and Y for boys—through to reach the egg for fertilization.
According to Dr. Shettles, this method works because each chromosome shows different characteristics, and by taking advantage of these characteristics, you can predetermine the sex of your unborn child.
For example, the X chromosomes that make baby girls are happier in an acidic environment, and are slower moving than the Y chromosomes that carry boy babies. The Y chromosomes, besides being faster moving; also prefer a more alkaline environment and are prone to die fairly quickly.
Based on these premises and more, Dr. Shettles claims that you can use various sexual positions and timing to give one or the other chromosomes a boost toward fertilization.
Here is how the Shettles Method suggests that you conceive a boy:
- Schedule intercourse very close to ovulation
- Men should not wear excessively warm or tight clothing because it kills off the weaker Y chromosomes
- Women should strive for orgasm as it increases the alkalinity of the vaginal canal, which helps the Ys reach the egg
- Use a non-missionary position so that the Y sperm won’t have to go as far to get to the egg
To conceive a girl using the Shettles method:
- Have intercourse 2-3 days before ovulation, during which time the male sperm will have conveniently died off
- No orgasm to reduce the alkaline properties that Ys prefer
- Stick with the plain vanilla missionary position to make the boy Y sperm have to work harder, giving the girls the edge
Bear in mind that the Shettles Method is far from guaranteed to work!
However, if you have a strong preference for one gender or another, you really have nothing to lose by trying it, and after all….who knows?
