Trying to Get Pregnant? Take it Easy!

by Devon Mason on January 31, 2010

If you have been trying to get pregnant for a while without success, you might be starting to feel a little stressed about the whole thing.

That’s understandable, but if you feel yourself getting tense and stressed about getting pregnant, make a conscious effort to calm down.

Stress can work on your body in many harmful ways!

For example, if you are stressed, you may not sleep well and have insomnia, which messes up your metabolism, which could then affect fertility.

You might eat too much, which could lead to obesity, and that can affect fertility.

Or, you might not eat enough, and anorexia or losing too much eight too quickly can also interfere with fertility.

Stress can also cause your blood pressure to shoot up, another undesirable physical side effect.

There are all kinds of ways that stress can affect your body, and when you are trying to conceive, you need your body to be in optimum condition all the way around.

It’s understandable that stress starts to accumulate when you are trying to get pregnant. If you are doing natural family planning and taking your basal temps every day, checking your cervical fluid and cervical position, then calculating when you are ovulating and which days are the best to try and conceive—it can all seem a little too clinical and easy to get uptight about the entire procedure.

This is normal.

But, when you feel yourself getting excessively stressed over trying to get pregnant and all that accompanies that, just slow down…take a deep breath….and try to relax.

You might try taking a nice leisurely walk along a scenic route, for instance.

Or treat yourself to a long, luxurious bubble bath. Or pile up in your favorite chair with a cup of herbal tea and a good book. Or lie down and listen to a soothing bit of music.

Whatever works best for you as a stress-buster is fine.

And remember, 9 out of 10 couples will conceive within a year, so the odds are in your favor!

Don’t let yourself become too stressed over trying to conceive, as the stress itself could affect your fertility.
