Although many parents-to-be say that they do not have a gender preference and don’t care what they get as long as it’s a healthy baby, some couples readily admit that they do want a specific gender.
In some cases, this is because the couple already has a boy and now want a girl, or vice versa.
Or, it may simply be a matter of preference.
Whatever the reason for wanting a specific gender, here are some tips for helping you pick whether you get a boy baby or a girl baby:
- Many couples have reported success by using the natural methods as outlined in the book “Baby Girl or Baby Boy: Determining the Sex of Your Child.” This book was written by Dr. Mark Moore and his wife Lisa, who is a registered pediatric nurse. You can find this book on Amazon if you are interested. Dr. Moore says that they make no guarantees, but that by following the methods in the book, successful gender choosing is accomplished about 80% of the time, which isn’t bad odds.
- If you want to spend around $20,000, you can have preimplantation genetic diagnosis. This is a type of in vitro fertilization that guarantees a boy or a girl. This procedure also raises some iffy ethics questions as it very often results in having too many viable embryos and the excess must be dealt with somehow.
- MicroSort is a new technology that involves artificial insemination with “sorted” sperm. So far, the success rate for MicroSort is running around 91% for boys and approximately 76% for girls. With a price tag of about $2500 per insemination, this could get costly.
- The Shettles Method is quite popular and relies on natural methods that won’t break the bank. This was developed by Dr. Landrum B. Shettles who wrote the best selling book “How to Choose the Sex of Your Baby.” The book came out back in the 1960s, and Dr. Shettles has tweaked and refined his methods since then. This book, too, is available on Amazon.
Whether you use high tech, pricey methods or natural alternatives to predetermining the gender of your baby, remember that there is no guarantee!
