If you are trying to get pregnant after already successfully having had one or more children, and not having any luck this time, you may be dealing with Secondary Infertility.

What is Secondary Infertility?

In short, Secondary Infertility refers to those people who have conceived at least once before, but are having difficulties getting pregnant again.

What Causes Secondary Infertility?

There can be many causes for Secondary Infertility. For example, if a woman has endometriosis, she may not have had much trouble getting pregnant and delivering once or more, but as time has gone on her endometriosis may have worsened to the extent that it is now making it very difficult to get pregnant again.

In addition, Secondary Infertility is often caused by semen abnormalities such as low sperm count, sperm abnormalities or low sperm motility. Or, it may be caused by ovulatory problems, pelvic adhesions and more.

Part of the problem may be as simple as bad timing.

For instance, if a couple conceived very quickly the first time, it may have been just plain good luck. In these cases, all that may be needed is a good Fertility Awareness program such as the Hormonal Forecaster that can help record and track natural signs of fertility to speed up the process of getting pregnant by knowing which days a women is most fertile and therefore, most likely to conceive.

Many doctors recommend that a couple seek help from a fertility specialist after four months of no success at getting pregnant if the mother is over the age of 39, six months if he is aged 35-39, and 12 months if she is under the age of 35.

However, if you want to get pregnant and are having irregular periods, extremely painful periods or painful sexual intercourse, unusual vaginal discharge, you should seek medical help right away.

If a man is having problems with decreased libido or problems such as premature ejaculation, he should see a doctor as soon as possible as either of these factors can cause problems with fertility.

Secondary Infertility is not uncommon, but there is often medical help available that will a couple to conceive again!
